Discover Walks operates at the budget end and does not pretend otherwise. The model is high volume, low price, and enthusiastic local guides rather than credentialled art historians. For a lot of visitors that is exactly the right trade.

They hold the top local ranking for skip-the-line Louvre walking tours, which means most people searching on a phone in Paris meet them first. As always, ranking measures marketing rather than guiding — but sustained ranking does indicate a business that reliably runs its tours.

The one thing to check

Walking-tour companies sometimes sell products that cover the Louvre from outside — the Cour Napoléon, the pyramid, the palace facades — without entering the museum. These are perfectly reasonable tours and considerably cheaper for an obvious reason.

Before booking, confirm two things in the listing: whether the tour goes inside, and whether museum admission is included in the price. Do not infer either from the phrase “skip the line”, which can describe a reserved-entry product or simply a route that avoids the pyramid queue.

Group size, honestly

Larger than the specialists. That is how the price works. If the group uses headsets, treat it as confirmation that it is big enough that the guide cannot be heard unaided.

This matters more inside the Louvre than on a street walk. Outdoors a large group is manageable; in the Grande Galerie or the Salle des États it becomes an exercise in following a raised umbrella. If that would spoil the visit for you, the extra €40 for a semi-private tour is the best money you will spend that day.

Who should book it

Budget-conscious visitors, travellers who want an overview rather than depth, and anyone whose Louvre visit is one item on a packed Paris day. Also a sensible choice for a second visit where you already know the building and just want a different lens on it.

Not the choice for families with young children, for anyone with a specific collection in mind, or for visitors who will resent standing at the back of a crowd.
