Fat Tire is a bicycle-tour brand with a long-standing Paris operation and a good reputation for what it primarily does. Walking and museum tours exist in the catalogue, but they are not the reason the company is well known and it would be misleading to review them as though they were.

Several Paris tours pass the Louvre without entering it. A bike route through the 1st arrondissement will cross the Cour Napoléon and stop at the pyramid, which is a legitimate and enjoyable thing to do — and is not a visit to the museum.

Read the listing for two words: whether the tour goes inside, and whether museum admission is included. Neither can be inferred from the presence of the word Louvre in the title.

Combining a ride with the museum

This pairing works better than most, for a physiological reason. Museum fatigue at the Louvre is caused by standing still on stone floors, which is more tiring than moving. A bike tour is active, outdoors and mostly seated, so it does not deplete the same reserves.

Do them in this order: ride first, museum second. Three hours of standing after a ride is manageable. A ride after three hours in the Denon wing is not, and you will spend it thinking about your feet.

Better still, ride in the morning and take an evening museum slot — see the late openings, when the galleries are quietest.
