Operator review
Le Paris de Patrick: is it worth booking?
One person, his own name on the door, bookings taken directly. This is the smallest unit in the Paris guiding market and the thing most people are actually describing when they say they want a private guide rather than a tour.

The personal-brand model
A guide trading under his own name is making a specific promise: you are booking him, not a company that will assign somebody. There is no roster, no substitution and no product description standing between you and the person who will meet you at the entrance.
That is a genuinely different transaction from every marketplace listing, and it is why searches for “private guide Louvre” behave differently from searches for “Louvre private tour”. People using the first phrase usually want a person; people using the second usually want a product.
What it gives you
- Certainty about the guide. No assignment lottery.
- A negotiated route. Tell him what interests you and that is the visit.
- Per-group pricing. The fee does not scale with your headcount, so parties of four or five do well.
- Continuity. Book the same guide for a second day and you start from where you left off.
What it costs you
Availability, above all. One calendar, finite days, and the museum closed every Tuesday to begin with. In July there may simply be nothing, and this is the reason people end up on marketplaces rather than any judgement about quality.
No backup. If he is ill, there is no second guide. If your visit is the fixed point of the trip, have a fallback in mind.
No platform recourse. Cancellation terms are whatever you agree, and there is no escalation path. Get the details in writing and pay by a method with buyer protection.
Making the enquiry work
Write with specifics rather than asking for availability. “We have three hours on a Wednesday evening and are interested in French Romanticism” gets you a considered reply and a route. “Do you have any availability?” gets you a calendar.
Confirm the guide-conférencier licence, confirm whether admission is included, and ask what he would skip. The full checklist is on the hiring a private guide page.
What it is good at, and where to be careful
Best for
- Visitors who want the same guide for a whole day
Watch for
- Availability is limited by definition
- Book well ahead
How it compares
Every operator on this site is judged on the same four things: real group size, guide credentials, whether museum admission is included, and how much evidence sits behind the reputation. All thirty operators, ranked into tiers. Every private format compared, with the crossover points.
Booking through a marketplace instead gives you free cancellation up to 24 hours on most products, which agencies rarely match. The platforms these operators sell through. Some links to tours and tickets are affiliate links. If you book through them we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend.
Questions people actually ask
What is Le Paris de Patrick?
An individual guide operating under his own name — one person, direct bookings, no agency in between. It is the smallest unit in this market and the model most people mean when they search for "a private guide".
Why book a named individual rather than a company?
Because you know exactly who is turning up, and the route is negotiated rather than delivered. The cost is availability: one person has one calendar, and no backup if they are ill.
How far ahead should I book?
Weeks, and more in high season. Availability is the binding constraint for every guide in this category, and no budget solves it.
